FLOODING ON HICKFORD ROAD / FOXTONSHANNON ROAD / UNION ROAD

Anne-Maree from Foxton

For anyone on these roads affected by flooding I am repeating here posts I just put on Facebook. I also attach my picture of the flooded Hickford road taken today.

POST ONE
Flooding at the Hicksford Road and Foxton Shannon Road Intersection.
I have complained to the council about flooding at this intersection that is flowing down the the verge of Foxton Shannon Road and Flooding into my property and under my house. The response from the chief Executive Officer is to say the the following "Our team has been out to inspect the site several times last week, and so far have not been able to see any water moving through the roadside verge towards your property. We are aware of a historic flooding issue at Hickford Road, but we aren’t aware of this water flooding over Hickford Road last week."

It may be fevered delusions' from the flu or Covid, but went to this intersection again this morning, I clearly see what looks like water flowing over this intersection on the cemetery side of the road.

If you can see this too, can you please email your confirmation of this and your photo to the chief Executive Officer Monique Davidson: moniqued@horowhenua.govt.nz

POST TWO
If you live on this street and have flooding on your road or property, I just want to make sure you are aware of two things.

The first is the Foxton East Drainage Scheme that local ratepayers are paying millions of dollars for over the next 10-20 years.
The second is that there used to be a culvert under the Foxton Shannon and Hicksford Road intersection that was sealed over when the road was widened. Where there was a culvert, I presume there was also a ditch down the over side of the road as well that is was also lost.
The Foxton East Drainage Scheme has a canal at Nye Road off 'union street, 1-2 km from the Hickford Road Intersection. Putting a culvert and drainage lane back down this road and into the Nye Road Canal would help ease the ground table level before it reaches flooding levels. It would allow people on this street benefit from the money they are putting into this scheme.
If having of a drainage system down this road is of benefit to you, then please contact your councilors about it.

Poll: Should we ditch daylight saving? 🕰️

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

First introduced in New Zealand in 1927 with the passing of the Summer Time Act, it's what we know as 'Daylight Saving' and this year it ends on the first Sunday in April.

While we do get to sleep in this time around, some people would like to scrap the clock tinkering for good.

And why? Some evidence suggests the time changes are bad for our health as they mess with sleep patterns leading to short-term fatigue and affecting mood. Meanwhile the hour change is frustrating for farmers and a nightmare for getting the littlies to sleep. But what's your take?
