Rerewhakaaitu bridge repairs update
Work on bridges damaged in the April storm is ongoing with contractors completing construction at Rerewhakaaitu bridge 3 this week.
Next week, from Tuesday 23 October, contractors will be moving to Rerewhakaaitu bridge 2.
The road closure currently in place at bridge 3 will be shifted to bridge 2 for the duration of the repair work, which is likely to be four to five weeks (weather permitting).
The localised detour currently in place via Yankee Road/Northern Boundary Road will remain in place.
Property access from Tuesday 23 October will be as follows:
•396 – 505 Rerewhakaaitu Road: All access via Yankee Road / Ashpit Road
•51 – 300 Rerewhakaaitu Road: All access via SH38 / Brett Road
All property owners between the two bridges (bridges 2 and 3) are being advised by letter about the road closure changes.
Rotorua Lakes Council would like to thank the residents for their ongoing patience while the works are being carried out.
For any questions or concerns people can contact Council via 07 348 4199 or info@rotorualc.nz

Poll: Are Kiwis allergic to “exuberance”? 🥝
In The Post’s opinion piece on the developments set to open across Aotearoa in 2026, John Coop suggests that, as a nation, we’re “allergic to exuberance.”
We want to know: Are we really allergic to showing our excitement?
Is it time to lean into a more optimistic view of the place we call home? As big projects take shape and new opportunities emerge, perhaps it’s worth asking whether a little more confidence (and enthusiasm!) could do us some good.
