COME AND DO YOUR BIT FOR YOUR COMMUNITY !
Grey Power Rotorua is entirely self-supporting financially, receiving no funding from government or other agencies, and employs no paid staff. With a membership of nearly 2000, we rely entirely on voluntary efforts to run the Association, and to keep regular office hours so that members and the public can be confident that if they come on down to the office, the doors are open as advertised!
We have had two long term (10 and 6 years respectively) workers retire at Christmas, and so are looking for a couple of people of any age who are willing to donate 2 hours a week, or per fortnight, either 10-12 or 12 -2 on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday on a regular basis. During March and April we open Monday as well, as there is an influx of subscription renewals to handle, so an extra opportunity there.
Those who will best enjoy this work are self reliant, have some interest in systems and office work, are careful about record keeping, and above all, FRIENDLY !! It would great too if you wanted to participate in our day to day planning and advocacy work.
The sorts of things that will happen will be enquiries of a general nature, which we then pass on to the right agency; the purchase of small value items we sell for fundraising, keeping accurate records, answering the phone and taking messages. At times we have mail outs of our magazine or occasional special projects.
This is actually a great opportunity for someone wanting to add office experience to their CV, someone feeling a bit isolated at home after having been an office worker, or someone wanting to stay active and serve their community in a really productive way. However, no prior experience is actually necessary, it's really easy to pick up, you will receive training with a current volunteer, not thrown in at the deep end as so often happens, and of course we have written guidelines. There are often times when you can do your own stuff, it's just that you are there for when someone does call in.
You can be any age from 18-99. There is a space outside in the parking area for smokers, as well as for your car / bike.
You can find out more about our Association above under the ABOUT drop menu, and at our website (link on the left), and about the Federation of Grey Power Associations to which we are affiliated, at their website.
We would love to hear from you ! To make contact, please email us at greypower.rotorua@gmail.com

A Valentine’s-inspired wedding dress show at Ryman Healthcare’s Logan Campbell Village is providing the perfect opportunity for residents to share memories of their romantic day.
But for Emma Muller, it has also turned into an opportunity to celebrate her late daughter Nicola, who died 19 years ago at the age of 37.
Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?
As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙
One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.
So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
-
59.4% Yes, supporting people is important!
-
26.4% No, individuals should take responsibility
-
14.2% ... It is complicated
