Parksyde was opened in August 2001 as an event centre for the 55+ age group and was one of the Rotorua Energy Charitable Trust's millennium projects. Parksyde is owned and operated by the Older Persons Charitable Trust and is the only one of its kind in the country.

We are not a retirement village or a day care centre for the elderly but simply an Event Centre providing activities for the 55+ age group. No membership is required; a small fee is charged for each activity, but no children please. We have a full commercial kitchen catering for lunches and functions which is also available for hire. One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.
