Electricity price gouging
I see it was reported today {Radio NZ) that Methanex, the Canadian methanol producer, had agreed to stop production and sell its NZ produced gas, bought at a dirt cheap 'secret' price, to NZ power companies to help us hard working Kiwis keep the lights on and our houses warm during the current electricity crisis.
'Well done Methanex', I thought, sacrificing profit for us Kiwis. Then I read further.
In a statement to the Toronto Stock Exchange, it stated "these commercial arrangements are expected to positively impact Methanex's Q3 and Q4 earnings with after-tax proceeds expected to meaningfully exceed the margin lost on New Zealand methanol production delivered to customers."
So Methanex resells New Zealand gas it gets at a dirt cheap price back to us and increases its profits by doing exactly nothing except ripping us off.
Screw you Methanex. The sooner you leave the country the better off we will be.
