Sharing so everyone knows
Hi everyone, just letting you know that my office has been responding to requests recently for a meeting to discuss some incidents of youth crime that have occurred in Stoke. We are working with some of the people affected to both support them and decide on the best type of meeting to arrange. I’m in Nelson this week and will share the meeting details once they have been finalised. I’ve met with the lovely man who was attacked by three young women, and his family and advocates and we are providing support to him. Everyone deserves to feel safe in their community, and I know that’s what most of us in Nelson want for everyone who lives here. Poll: Do you think NZ should ban social media for youth?
The Australian Prime Minister has expressed plans to ban social media use for children.
This would make it illegal for under 16-year-olds to have accounts on platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X.
Social media platforms would be tasked with ensuring children have no access (under-age children and their parents wouldn’t be penalised for breaching the age limit)
