Modern church building rejected for historic South Island town
A planned olive leaf-shaped community building that divided the people of Arrowtown has been rejected by council commissioners.
The building, designed by Queenstown architect Fred van Brandenburg, is proposed as a multi-use parish centre situated beside the heritage-listed St Patrick's Catholic Church.
It was supported by the Catholic Diocese of Dunedin, which owns the land, but drew widespread criticism from many people in the small gold-mining town, known for its historic buildings. Read the full story here.
