Earlier this month, one of the owners of the store was working… View moreThanks to the brave and quick actions of these members of the public (pictured centre and centre right) – an offender who was trying to make a getaway after stealing money from a Henderson dairy was stopped and swiftly arrested. 👏
Earlier this month, one of the owners of the store was working behind the counter when a man entered the store and demanded money.
He walked behind the counter to the cash register and took a large sum of money, but the owner very quickly managed to activate the anti-theft smoke canon and the offender fled the shop.
Seeing what happened, the members of the public chased the offender and caught him, holding him until Police arrived soon afterwards.
He was then arrested and taken into custody.
A 40-year-old man has been charged with theft and was due to appear in the Waitakere District Court last week.
The money taken was returned to the dairy owners (pictured on the left), who were very grateful to those who stepped in to help.

A Tourism Industry Aotearoa survey showed that on average hotels were barely half full in 2020, well down on the 80 per cent average occupancy rates they had previously enjoyed since 2016.
Queenstown’s average occupancy rates fell from 82 per cent in 2019 to 42 per cent last year as a result of the border closure. Read more here.

You’ll start out following Stewart Creek, then climb uphill and eventually reach a ridge. The undulating terrain and steep sections can be tough, but you’ll forget how tired you are when you glimpse those sweet views of Lake Wānaka, Lake Hāwea and the Southern Alps.
Getting there: The track start is just off the SH6 about a half-hour drive from Wānaka.

Cycling Action Network spokesman Patrick Morgan said biking had boomed in popularity since New Zealand went into lockdown in March, causing a bicycle shortage. Many of those buying bikes and e-bikes were older people rediscovering the hobby, he said.

In a letter to Queenstown hotel operator Nik Kiddle, new Tourism Minister Stuart Nash confirmed he had spoken to Queenstown Lakes District mayor Jim Boult about the proposed visitor levy, which Nash understood was put on hold due to Covid-19.
Nash believed visitors should be contributing to the cost of infrastructure, he said in the letter. Read more here.
