International Women’s Day (8 March) is a day for us to join voices with people around the world and shout our message for equal rights loud and clear: “Women’s rights are human rights!”
Franklin will celebrate on March 6th at the Pukekohe Cosmopolitan Club to celebrate the achievements of women, whether social, political, economic or cultural.

It is a social evening and a good time to make connections with other women, there will also be some planning for the year ahead so if you know some interesting speakers please bring their contact details.
We will be mentioning Red Bag Day also known as Equal Pay Day, which marks the period of extra days in the current year which women need to work to achieve the same wages as men earned during the previous financial year.
Equal Pay Day is recognised in many countries around the world, with the exact day varying depending on the gender pay gap in any particular country.
BPW Franklin is marking the day by filling red bags with toiletries and other essentials, for women who arrive at the refuges with nothing. If you would like to contribute to helping these women please bring along toiletry items. Shine has made the following suggestions:-
The basics: are toothpaste, toothbrush, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and deodorant.
Extras: wipes, face tissues, brush/comb, facecloth/sponge, lip balm, plasters, soap, hand gel, cotton bus, torch.
BPW will fill the Red bags and these will be presented to Carol Hubert from Shine, who is the February speaker. You are welcome to attend this too.
If you wish to attend and we hope you will join us, please prepay $30 and text Marilyn 027 4799121 for payment details before 8pm Sunday 24th. Let her know if you have any special dietary requirements.
We look forward to seeing you next week.

A leading coronavirus expert is urging the Government to make scanning mandatory at such potential "super-spreader" venues as bars and nightclubs.
The pleas follow figures revealing daily use of the Covid Tracer app has plummeted to a fifth of its peak.
Last Monday, a total of 515,759 scans were recorded nationwide, down from the high of 2.5 million on September 4.
Epidemiologist Dr Michael Baker said the next six months would be a “very dangerous” time for the country with a high risk of an outbreak while waiting for the vaccine roll-out in April.
