Regional councillor fights for 'million-dollar' Porirua property

Reporter Community News

A scrap is brewing over a piece of “premium” public land in Porirua valued at more than $1 million, with the Porirua City Council up against a consortium led by Greater Wellington Regional councillor Chris Kirk-Burnnand.
He heads a group of five neighbours wanting to buy almost 6000 square metres of public land at Motukaraka Point, which has views over Pauatahanui Inlet and backs on to their properties.
The consortium values the property at $180,000 while the council has a valuation of $600,000.
A local real estate agent reckons it is worth over $1 million.

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
