MODERN SLAVERY IS CLOSER THAN YOU MIGHT THINK

Ian Munro from Rotary Club of Tawa Inc.

It mightn’t be easy to associate modern day slavery and human trafficking with our country, but, in fact, both are a reality in New Zealand. World-wide some 36 million people are caught up in modern day slavery with women and girls making up two-thirds of the victims. Human trafficking is the third largest form of organised crime internationally.
Tawa Rotary invites you to hear Katie Knowles, Operations Manager at MBIE, speak on how to become aware of these new forms of slavery.

Next Tuesday, 12 March, at the Tawa Bowling Club, Davies Street, Tawa.
Cost: $25.00 for the 2-course buffet meal, payable on the night.
RSVP: by midday Monday, 11 March, to tawarotaryclub@gmail.com

Poll: Do you think banning gang patches is reasonable?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

With the government cracking down on gangs, it is now illegal for gang members to display their insignia in public places whether through clothing or their property.

This means arrests can be made if these patches are worn in places like restaurants, shops, on public transport or ferries, and on airplanes. Arrests were made recently at a funeral.

Do you think this ban is reasonable?
