For many families Xmas time is a very stressful time.

Here at KCA we sponsor families whom are doing long term budgeting (with our partner agencies) by providing them with Xmas presents. We also sponsor the homeless and those who have experienced violence in the home.

The agencies that we assist with Xmas presents are:-

1) Newlands Foodbank (budgeting clients)
2) Porirua Womens Refuge
3) Birthright Wellington (budgeting clients)
4) Wellington Night Shelter
5) Supergrans Lower Hutt & Porirua (budgeting clients)

We are looking for companies to join us by popping up a Xmas Tree and asking staff members to donate festive treats of Xmas presents. The items must be brand new.

If the gifts are wrapped please ensure that you pop the gender and the age group that the gift is for.

If you are able to assist us please email us on admin@kca.org.nz

If you are an individual and want to assist us, please note that you are able to drop off your Xmas presents at Tawa Community Centre, Churton Park Community Centre, Johnsonville Community Centre, Newlands Community Centre and Island Bay Community Centre.

Our other drop off points are also available for you to leave Xmas treats and gifts at.

Here is a selection of photos of the work that we do in the local community. This is all done behind the scenes.

As a distribution hub to 67 partner agencies, KCA volunteers are able to distribute stock as far as Upper Hutt to Wellington City and back up to Paraparaumu.

Everything that we receive is passed on for free. We don't sell anything that is donated to us by our donors or sponsors.

Our 92 volunteers work behind the scenes 6 days a week to rescue food - Sunday to Friday.

This food is distributed directly to local foodbanks, schools and community groups with whom we have a service contract with. Some of these agencies are The Salvation Army Lower Hutt, Tawa, Porirua and Johnsonville receive food from us. St Vincent de Paul Porirua and St Anne's Pantry Foodbanks, plus Newlands Foodbank, Wellington City Mission and Kemp House, Natone Park School, Linden School, HHT School, Porirua Activity Centre,Virtuoso Strings and The House of Grace.

KCA is truly blessed to have food rescue contracts with all the supermarkets from Khandallah to Paremata (with the exception of Pak n Save Porirua). Thanks also to the food manufacturing companies as far as Auckland to Wellington who also donate bulk pallets to us of food. We also collect food from local farmers markets.

So far in the month of October, KCA volunteers have rescued and redistributed nearly 10.5 tons of food.

Our warehouse volunteer teams on a Tuesday to Thursday mornings sort and make up all the non food orders for clients working with our partner agencies. This stock goes out to partner agencies such as Pregnancy Help Greater Wellington, Taeaomanino Trust, Birthright Wellington, Supergrans Lower Hutt and Porirua.

Thanks to our volunteer drivers in Island Bay, Newtown, Churton Park, Ngaio, Haitaitai, Whitby, Wellington City and Newlands who bring donations from our various drop off points to our warehouse.

Thanks to Whittaker's for their generous donation of rice bubbles and to Foodstuffs North Island Transport Division for their generous donation.

Foodstuffs NI Transport Division collected it for us and brought it to our warehouse.

This stock is already preallocated and is going out to local schools, foodbanks and to feed the homeless.

Great team work to everyone involved.

"Kia ora – James Lough from New World Porirua here. Keen to discover a new top drop in time for summer?

My favourite wine from this year’s New World Wine Awards is the Tohu Single Vineyard Riesling and for many reasons! First, it’s delicious with a zingy acidity. Secondly, it has a great story - all wine should start a conversation and the people behind this wine and their governance of the land give you plenty of that. Lastly, the wine sums up what the New World Wine Awards is all about: helping customers discover new wines that surprise and delight.” And Bob Dunkerly from New World Thorndon’s pick is the Stoneleigh Latitude Marlborough Chardonnay. “It’s an excellent wine, with delicious stone fruit flavours. It’s very approachable for anyone wanting to give Chardonnay a try.”

Come into your local New World and explore the Top 50 Gold-medal winning wines – we have winners for every budget. Plus join us for complimentary wine sampling and try before you buy.

From 21 October, a one-way system will be in place with a detour route along Conclusion Street and Desert Gold Street.

Warspite Ave will be reduced to a single lane during the work, through the peaks and out of hours. This will result in significant journey time increase. Please find an alternative route wherever possible.
