"Just something to make the bird loving followers smile a little....
One of our resident blackbirds has decided that he would prefer bathing in our cat's outdoor water bowl rather than in our very posh and elegant bird birth! His sparrow mate had to make do with washing in the puddle created by the blackbird's vigorous ablutions!"

We couldn’t do this without the help of many generous and kind people and organisations. One of these organisations is Project Village (Lagi Finau), who made up some amazing gift packs for lonely and isolated seniors in time for Christmas.

So, on the last working day in December, our CEO Stephen Opie and Social Connection Coordinator Kirsten Blyde spent the day delivering the gift packs all over town. “It was great to spread a little Christmas cheer a couple of days before Christmas. Some even said that this was probably the only gift they would receive,” Stephen said.

Thank you Project Village for caring for our Region’s seniors!

I have not seen a postman in our street since early December. Well today 11th January we got 10 Christmas cards and plus some letters this isn’t good enough. Letters had a post stamp 6 December on them. Plus we sent a parcel down to Wanaka on 10th December and our son didn’t get it till till early January. We also sent 2 cards to Melbourne on the 8th December and my daughter just got them yesterday. Also sent one to Perth and they received it just before new year’s. Looks like sending cards for Christmas is finished now, plus it not cheap to send any mail these days.

Take Ross for example. He’s a Ryman resident who began his musical journey at the age of 65. His ‘no worries’ lifestyle has meant that ten years later, Ross plays in several bands and tours in different towns playing music on a guitar he made himself. A little certainty provides great reassurance in knowing you can pursue the things you love in retirement, without any worries.

⚠️ FINAL UPDATE 3:00 pm: Burst watermain - 19 Parumoana Street, Porirua

Our crews have repaired the pipe.

It will take some time to get water through to everyone and our crews will be checking and flushing hydrants in the Takapūwāhia area for the next 30 minutes in order to clear the pipes of any cloudy water or air pockets.
Please allow 30 minutes to an hour before returning to normal water usage.

People should run a cold tap for a few minutes to clear any air pockets or cloudy water from their pipes before using hot taps, dishwashers and washing machines.

The team will be in the area for a while yet backfilling the excavation and cleaning up the site.

This is our last and final update. Thank you everyone for your patience!⚠️ UPDATE 9:30 am

---

Crews have started the repair. As per the map below, all streets within the red zone are impacted by the shutdown.

We are urgently sending water tankers to the site. One tanker will be stationary outside 25 Awarua Street, Elsdon (The Elsdon Foodmarket) and the other will be roving the area to supply water to any residents as required.

Due to the burst we are asking people in Titahi Bay to conserve water to help manage demand on the network. You can do this by taking shorter showers, holding off doing the laundry or watering the garden.

Further updates to be provided.

---

Our crews are responding to a burst watermain outside Harvey Norman at 19 Parumoana Street which has flooded the carpark.

Our team are quickly isolating the area now. People in the area, and in Takapūwāhia, may experience low water pressure or no water at all. It is anticipated that service will be interrupted for at least 4 – 5 hours.

We are awaiting urgent mark outs and traffic control before the repair work can can begin. Further updates will be provided once the crew have started the repair.
