Friday Feathered Friend

Nicholas Boyack Reporter from The Post

Words and pictures this week from Rosa Marie.

"I managed to get some birdie time yesterday at Silverstream just in time before the wet weather set in! Spent a bit of time chasing an elusive kōtare but no shots unfortunately! I did get close to a few Goldfinches at one stage which is unusual as they are normally very skittish!
I discovered a shag high up in the trees near a playground too! A shame it was too dark to get a decent capture but I liked the shadow effect! Saw lots of ducks in the stream, I think that there were a couple of Australian Shovellers if I am not mistaken!
The first photos is of tui that I had earlier been stalking around my property. He had plenty to say to me...."

Teen Anxiety and Wellbeing School Holiday Program

Carolyn from Titahi Bay

Does your teenager suffer from anxiety?
Are they Year 9-13?
Are they willing to accept counselling support in a unique, experiential setting with horses?
Will they be happy working in a group setting with 3 other people plus two facilitators and horses? No horse riding is involved, all activities are ground-based.

If the answers are YES then read on.

We are offering a 2 day program in the school holidays, fully funded by Gumboot Friday, to help teenagers with strategies for coping with anxiety. We also use strength-based activities to build up confidence, self-esteem and well-being.

Gumboot Friday funding criteria:
* the young person must be on a waiting list for mental health support OR they don't meet criteria for other funding.
