Have you got a question for the local police?
We're launching a regular column connecting our locals with the police in our community.
Detective Senior Sergeant Christiaan Barnard is welcoming readers to send us their questions which he'll then find the answers to.
Barnard leads five CIB squads spread between here and Kāpiti, and is currently the Wellington District Police Negotiation Team Commander.
“I encourage any and all questions – don’t be put off my Detective background if you have broader question about something like road policing. If I don’t know the answer, then I will find out from one of my knowledgeable colleagues."
If you've got a question, please email it to editor@kapiti-observer.co.nz including your name and address. [Addresses will not be published. ]

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?
Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
