North City Tenpin was the big winner at the recent Porirua Sports Awards.

The event, held for the first time since 2019, was a procession for the city’s tenpin bowlers and no one was more surprised than coach Chris Haynes on 2 November.

Along with him taking away the coach of the year trophy, teenager Ben Pettit won the young sportsman award and the U21 North City Tenpin squad was named team of the year.

Haynes then had to take the familiar route to the Te Rauparaha Arena stage as he was presented with the Michael Campbell Trophy as the premier winner on the night.

Other winners on the night were Paul Petersen (volunteer), Northern United media crew (service to sport), Keira Noble-Shedlock (young sportswoman), Anna Thomson (individual sportswoman), Lance Pere (disabled sportsperson), and Cole Hawkins (individual sportsman).

We would love to be in a nice rural area with a big paddock we can spend our days in, digging around and eating some nice food and treats. Unfortunately we are unable to live in urban areas. We need to go out in pairs, or together as a group of 4. We would also be okay going to our new homes where there may be an existing pig family we can join in on. If you have room in your farm family for us, please enquire with the Wellington SPCA team."

German-born British composer Max Richter invites us on a journey through his reimagined landscape of Vivaldi’s pictorial masterpiece The Four Seasons.

The Four Seasons is something we all carry around with us,” says Richter, “It’s just everywhere. This project is about reclaiming this music for me personally, by getting inside it and rediscovering it – and taking a new path through a well-known landscape.”

Dancers from inclusive dance company Jolt join together with musicians of the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra to create an energetic and evocative performance.

Led by acclaimed violinist Martin Riseley, this event is a joyous and affirming celebration of movement, music, and life.

Grade 5 plastics have now been added to Porirua’s kerbside recycling collection and bulk recycling facility at Spicer Landfill.

This type of plastic was initially excluded from our city’s plastics recycling in early 2020 as Oji, the sorting company that takes the recycling, did not have the space to process it.

Many everyday items are made from grade 5 plastics, such as most yoghurt, margarine, ice cream and takeaway containers, and plastic plant pots.

Just look underneath the item for the number 5 recycling symbol to see if it’s eligible to go in your yellow recycling bin. If there’s no symbol at all, it’s best to leave it out.

Check out the rubbish and recycling page at poriruacity.govt.nz for more information
