Council to rent out leaky apartments until they can be sold

Matt Tso Reporter from Community News

After being forced to buy 24 Titahi Bay apartments in a leaky homes settlement the Porirua City Council will bring the units up to standard for renting while advertising them for sale with full disclosure of their defects.

They have inadequate waterproofing membranes to the floors and walls, poorly detailed flashings to the balconies and a lack of drainage at the base of the cavity walls.

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
