Children’s Christmas Party
A sea of expectant faces as the children await that most vital thing: their gift from Father Christmas. A big vote of thanks to Allan and Barbara Nichols for arranging yet another wonderful evening for our children and grandchildren. The attendance gets bigger every year.
Harold visited and Nigel the magician kept the children spellbound. Santa and helper were as generous as always. Thanks!
First though, everyone had to show their Vaccine Passes and check in with our Door Monitors, Bryan and Dexter. That all went without a hitch and then things got serious. Children received a balloon and other goodies while most adults seemed to head for the Bar.
Santa and his trusty fairy were popular with the children and so was the magician, Nigel’s, white rabbit who was stroked by a long queue of kids at the end of the show. Just how is he trained to sit so placidly for the whole time?
The caterer provided an excellent meal of glazed ham and vegetables, followed by individual Pavlovas with fruit, cream and ice creams for the adults. The children seemed more than happy with their boxes of chicken nuggets and chips plus the ubiquitous party ice creams.
Notices were few and far between, especially after Organiser Extraordinaire, Allan, gave every child one of those pesky roll-out squeakers. A cacophony of shrieks and shrill noises erupted as 40- odd children blew to their hearts’ content. The party, unsurprisingly, wound up soon afterwards.

Another vote of appreciation goes to David Knight. The speech contest runs seamlessly every year thanks to his great liaison with Sarah Jennings at Discovery School and his behind the s cenes organisation. The looks of pride on the parents face is a real joy. Just to get to this final the students need to be excellent speakers and they did not disappoint.
Chief Judge Wendy claimed the standard of speeches this year was the highest ever. I know I was very impressed. Thanks to the three adjudicators, Wendy, David and Darryl. Thanks to our official photographer, Graham Craig, for recording this event again and to other Rotarians who supported the event.

The puzzle is fine but there is a small scrape on the picture on the box and a small mark on the box base.
I got tired of going the black (I don't do sky either) so I laid out pieces to complete the puzzle, to check that it was all there - an it was.

Stuff Ltd's recent support for Age Concern Wellington Region's Christmas appeal has been invaluable:

"Age Concern also experienced a burst of new interest and donations after we wrote about Rick Johnston and Denis White, who have been buddied up through Age Concern's visiting service. Johnston takes 82-year-old White out to lunch or to Mitre 10, or works in his backyard.
'But the best outcome has been the 35 volunteers signing up to help deliver social connection services to older people in our communities,” said Stephen Opie, chief executive of Age Concern Wellington. “We’re always needing more volunteers, so this has been a great response for us.'"
