Reminder: Algal bloom warnings remain for Waihao River

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

Algal bloom health warnings are still in place for the Waihao River in South Canterbury, the Canterbury District Health Board's Community and Public Health unit says.

The CDHB listed nine places across Canterbury with the Waihao River, near Bradshaws Rd in the Waimate district, the only place in South Canterbury said to have an ongoing algal blooms warning.

People and animals, particularly dogs, should avoid these waterways until the health warning has been lifted as the blooms can produce toxins that are harmful to humans and animals.

Exposure may cause skin rashes, nausea, stomach cramps, tingling and numbness around the mouth and fingertips. If you experience any of these symptoms visit your doctor immediately and please let your doctor know if you have had contact with these waterways.
