Most South Canterbury primary schools to close on November 15

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

Almost all South Canterbury primary schools will close on November 15 in support of their teachers taking part in a nationwide strike.

Those teachers will take part in a public protest on State Highway 1 on the same day, New Zealand Educational Institute Te Riu Roa (NZEI) national executive representative, and Pleasant Point-based teacher, Barbara Curran said.

At this stage Timaru Christian School and Waihi School will stay open on the day while Winchester Rural School, Beaconsfield School, Barton Rural School and Grantlea Downs have yet to confirm whether they will be open or closed.

This is the second strike for the year, and most of the same issues from the first strike are the focus for this one, Curran said.

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
