Two dead in SH1 crash north of Rangitata

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

Two people are dead following a two-vehicle crash north of Rangitata between Ashburton and Timaru. Police say State Highway 1 is closed at the intersection of Ealing Rd, just north of the Rangitata Bridge.

A police communications team member said two vehicles were involved and the crash is reported to have occurred about 1.40pm.

The Serious Crash Unit will be attending and diversions are in place at Delmaine Rd, Hinds to the north of the crash scene and at State Highway 79 to the south.

Northbound traffic should turn onto SH79 at Rangitata, on to Route 72 at Geraldine Arundel Road and right onto Hinds Arundel Rd.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible and expect delays, and to follow the directions of emergency services onsite. This detour is not suitable from HPMV's but is suitable for 50Max traffic.

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?

We want to know: What do you think about automation?
Are you for, or against?
