With most DOC huts in Marlborough currently closed due the recent flooding, I find it a bit surreal that just the day before the rain started, my daughter and I had a fantastic wilderness adventure.
With the ongoing wet weather and track and hut closures, no one is going anywhere for a bit, but it has given me the opportunity to write up our adventure, so there's something to read for those who enjoy the outdoors but can't get out anywhere at the moment.

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
