Meet Tehya (IVM Day 2020 spotlight)

Hannah Cunningham from Volunteer Marlborough

As part of the lead up to International Volunteer Managers Day (IVMD), we caught up with a few of the fantastic Managers of Volunteers here in Marlborough.
Introducing Tehya Henare-Toka, the wonderful Community Services Coordinator at @plunketnz in Marlborough:

- Tell us about how you first got involved with Plunket? I had recently moved to the Marlborough area and I was looking for work. When I saw the role being advertised, I thought it was a good fit with my past professional experience so I applied. The more I learned about Plunket, the more I realised what great initiatives we are responsible for in the community and what fantastic support we get from the National team.

- What was your first impression? I didn't know much about the organisation prior to taking on the role, admittedly. I'd had my own Plunket baby book but I looked at the role as a bit of a blank slate for me to come in and make my mark and build on the work that had been done before my arrival. Plunket is so much more than just a wellness check with a nurse, it is all about being a wraparound service for local families and their tamariki/children, following the Te Whare Tapa Whā model of care.

- What's the best thing to happen since you started working here? Probably being able to see a project started, carried out, and finished that has an impact on the community. It is so rewarding to see that all come together and see the way it can change people's lives.

Dehorners

Ron from Fairhall - Renwick - Woodbourne

SharpAs Tool Tips

Pictured is a set of dehorners brought in for sharpening. Like all cutting tools, a sharp edge is essential for them to work efficiently and cleanly.

Good to see that pain relief is now part of the process as well.

If you have tools, knives, kitchen utensils, or other items that need sharpening or repair, come and see me:
🔹 Redwood Market – Saturdays
🔹 Marlborough Farmers’ Market – Sundays
Or contact me directly on 027 444 5535.

Cheers,
Ron

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
