Should tramping tracks be closed to save kauri?
Did you know Kauri dieback disease has been found in the Coromandel Peninsula and DOC proposes to close some tracks to prevent its spread? A tramping club says DOC should upgrade the tracks to protect kauri, instead of closing them. Kauaeranga Tramping Club tracks officer Greg Laslett said if the back country tracks are lost, where will people learn and enjoy wilderness skills?
