Help spread Christmas cheer

Julie Kaio Reporter from Hauraki Herald

Christmas is the season of giving, to friends, family, work colleagues and people you know who have done you a service through the year.
Please don't forget those children who come from poorer homes who's parents may not be able to give them everything they would like too.
It can be a hard season for some parents who do not like to see their children miss out and do the best they can to give them a merry time.
They appreciate a hand from generous people who donate gifts to the Christmas Toy Appeal which has been supported by the Hauraki Herald for the past 25 years. The Herald supports the Salvation Army in Thames and the Combined Churches of Paeroa by being a collection point for people to drop new toys off at. The office in Sealy St is open from 8.30am weekdays and in Paeroa you can leave your donations at the information centre in the middle of town. Gifts do not have to be big and expensive but they do need to be new, not second-hand.
Donations of gift-wrapping paper, name tags and tape would be appreciated by the organisations who wrap and deliver the gifts.

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?

Poll: As a customer, what do you think about automation?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

The Press investigates the growing reliance on your unpaid labour.

Automation (or the “unpaid shift”) is often described as efficient ... but it tends to benefit employers more than consumers.

We want to know: What do you think about automation?
Are you for, or against?
