Poll: Will you be using the new public transport van service in south Auckland?

Ripu Bhatia Reporter from Papakura Courier

A new on-demand public transport service is set to be trialled in south Auckland.

AT Local will begin on October 31 with vans operating in Conifer Grove, Takanini, and Papakura for 12 months.

Auckland mayor Phil Goff said AT Local will provide safe, flexible access to key bus and train routes.

“AT Local vehicles are fully electric and if the trial of this service is successful it will enable more people to leave their cars at home, helping to reduce carbon emissions and traffic congestion on our roads,” he said.

As a rideshare service, people will share the vehicle with other passengers going to the same place.

There will be close to 400 pick up and drop off points located throughout the service zone, and customers can pay using an AT HOP card.

Bookings can be made through an AT Local app or the AT customer call centre.

The service will run weekdays from 5.30am 9.30pm, and on weekends and public holidays from 6.30am to 8.30pm.

“During Alert Level 2, 3 and 4 only 10-seater vans will be used and a maximum of three customers will be able to use the service at a time, to ensure physical distancing,” an Auckland Transport (AT) spokeswoman said.

Poll: Have you ever been bullied?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

People associate bullying with children in schools, but it can actually stretch beyond childhood to workplaces or neighbourhoods.

This Friday is Pink Shirt Day, which began in Canada in 2007 when two students took a stand against homophobic bullying after a new student was harassed for wearing pink. People across the globe are now encouraged to wear pink on this day to take a stand against bullying and promote inclusivity.

Have you or your whānau ever experienced bullying? Share your thoughts on Pink Shirt Day below.

Type 'Not For Print' if you wish your comments to be excluded from the Conversations column of your local paper.
