Junior Doctors' Strike
Please be aware of the intended 48-hour strike by some Resident Medical Officers (RMOs) who are members of the New Zealand Resident Doctors’ Association (NZDRA), starting tomorrow.
The proposed strike is part of a national period of industrial action by RMOs and will take place from 7am on Tuesday, 15 January through to 7am on Thursday, 17 January.
Patients should still come to their scheduled appointment or surgery at Palmerston North Hospital on the strike days UNLESS we have contacted them directly to say their appointment is being rescheduled.
People with non-urgent ailments or injuries should visit their GP or after hours clinic in the first instance. Anyone unsure about whether they need ED care should contact their GP or call Healthline (0800 611 116) for free advice from a registered nurse.

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?
As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙
One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.
So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
-
60% Yes, supporting people is important!
-
25.7% No, individuals should take responsibility
-
14.3% ... It is complicated
