Disgust at the Government

Pat from Feilding

I am so appalled by the cruelty of this coalition government (co-government?), I really wonder what kind of world they are trying to create. We received this from our local disability service provider today:

"The Ministry for Disability – Whaikaha has suddenly radically changed how people with disabilities are able to use their funding. This was announced on Monday the 18th and is to be in effect from Monday the 18th. We have been advised that as of next week all Whaikaha funding that was pre-approved has been discontinued, regardless of who holds the budget or what we are doing to support you and your whanau/families.
We are devastated about the impact of this for our clients and whanau/families and the impact this will have on our services ability to provide essential services. We are working hard to determine what this means in the longer term and continuing to seek further clarification and hope to be able to provide more information soon."

The whole disabled community will be shocked and devastated by this, and why? Is it because they are so determined to give everyone a $5 per week tax cut that they will destroy us all to do it? This is the worst governance I have ever seen!

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

DOC is rolling out a new tool to help figure out what to tackle first when it comes to protecting our threatened species and the things putting them at risk.

Why does this matter? As Nikki Macdonald from The Post points out, we’re a country with around 4,400 threatened species. With limited time and funding, conservation has always meant making tough calls about what gets attention first.

For the first time, DOC has put real numbers around what it would take to do everything needed to properly safeguard our unique natural environment. The new BioInvest tool shows the scale of the challenge: 310,177 actions across 28,007 sites.

Now that we can see the full picture, it brings the big question into focus: how much do we, as Kiwis, truly value protecting nature — and what are we prepared to invest to make it happen?

We hope this brings a smile!
