Roberts Line Closure?
Please could all concerned residents submit to PNCC on this ASAP
My submission:
I am writing to oppose the proposed closing of the Roberts Line/Railway Road intersection.
I have used this intersection safely for years as have many other Kelvin Grove residents for travelling to points North through Bunnythorpe, or points West via Kairanga/Bunnythorpe Rd. Alternative routes will require more time and vehicle emissions or travelling though some of the PN 50 km/hr zone. This can only lengthen travel times, resulting in more tired/frustrated drivers and reduced safety, plus huge inconvenience for Roberts Line residents travelling North
You acknowledge that the reason for this is due to recent fatal crashes. However subsequently multiple rumble strips were added and made the need for stopping and fully checking the road abundantly clear to all but the most incompetent drivers who shouldn't be on the road. The vast majority of responsible drivers should not be penalised.
You also mention the Road To Zero campaign. This is an absurd notion (that there will be zero road deaths by 2050), yet leads to a mentality that speeds limits should be continually slowed and roads closed in the belief that "pedestrians and people on bikes" are going to be a significant solution to transport-even for an intersection like this, miles out in the countryside.
I urge that the Roberts Line/ Railway Road intersection remain open to vehicles.
Some Choice News!
DOC is rolling out a new tool to help figure out what to tackle first when it comes to protecting our threatened species and the things putting them at risk.
Why does this matter? As Nikki Macdonald from The Post points out, we’re a country with around 4,400 threatened species. With limited time and funding, conservation has always meant making tough calls about what gets attention first.
For the first time, DOC has put real numbers around what it would take to do everything needed to properly safeguard our unique natural environment. The new BioInvest tool shows the scale of the challenge: 310,177 actions across 28,007 sites.
Now that we can see the full picture, it brings the big question into focus: how much do we, as Kiwis, truly value protecting nature — and what are we prepared to invest to make it happen?
We hope this brings a smile!
