Retired Unionists" Movement (RUM) - Manawatu
All retired union members and officials are invited to the launch of a Manawatu branch of RUM on Thursday 27 March, 12,30 to 2.30pm, at PSA office 198 Cuba St (Manawatu House). This is a forum for retirees who would like to keep connected with the trade union movement and to continue to support working people in their struggles. Our kaupapa is to campaign for union rights, fairness at work, end poverty, a better world for our children. We will also seek to fundraise for Unionaid, the international aid agency of the NZ Council of Trade Unions. Thanks, John Shennan.
Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?
As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙
One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.
So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
-
59.5% Yes, supporting people is important!
-
24.6% No, individuals should take responsibility
-
15.9% ... It is complicated
