Waterloo Park (Hokowhitu) land exchange proposal decision - this Wednesday, 15/11/23

Rosemary from Hokowhitu

Some of you will be aware of the PNCC land exchange proposal where an area of Waterloo Park Reserve in Hokowhitu is under threat of being lost to housing development as part of Plan Change E at Roxburgh Crescent.
Some will also know of local community aspirations to see the area retained as Reserve land, with the vision of it being part of a larger potential community orchard in Waterloo Park.

A recent PNCC mailout in the Hokowhitu area seeks public feedback on a revised Draft Plan Change E. Although a side-note indicates otherwise, some of the information on that mailout, and on the PNCC website it references (pncc.govt.nz/roxburgh), appears to imply that the loss of the Waterloo Park Reserve area has already been sanctioned.

In fact, the land exchange proposal decision has not yet been made. Following the public consultation in April/May, and the submissions hearing in early August, Councillors will be debating and voting on the issue this week, as the first step in the final decision process.

This is scheduled as Item 9 on the Agenda for the Strategy & Finance Committee meeting on Wednesday (15th November, estimated start time approx. 10.30 a.m.). Interested members of the public are encouraged to come to the Council Chamber to observe the proceedings.

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
