Rates to rise in Tararua district
The Tararua District Council has decided to raise rates by 4.2 per cent from July, a higher increase than the planned 3.85 per cent.
This is due to a lean budget and rising costs across the board, from emergency roading repairs to new safety standards.
"It's important to stress the budget was extremely lean. There's no fat to trim," the council's senior financial accountant quotes.
