Hokitika has been named the most welcoming town in NZ in Booking.com's 10th annual Traveller Review Awards.
Would be keen to hear from those who live there or who have visited whether they think the town really is exceptionally friendly. What makes it a welcoming place, or otherwise? Were there any cafes, restaurants, shops or other places you received a particularly warm welcome?
Lake Tekapo and Oamaru came in second and third place respectively, followed by Cambridge, Picton, Invercargill, Martinborough, Kerikeri and Palmerston North. Jacinda is now facing a problem that has never been faced before - a war on our own territory - and the poor lady just has no records to fall back on. Back in the 1940's when the UK was under threat, Parliament was dissolved and a co-alition was set in place. This gave us some very severe measures - rationing of many food items for instance - and people were requested, nay - forced to grow their own vegetables, have chooks in their backyards, trading amongst neighbours, local councils let out allotments for anyone to grow more vegetables. You just don't know how bad it could get - it least we are not putting up with air raids and bombing.
Give Jacinda a break, she's doing the best that she can, she doesn't need all the hindrance she's getting from the anti-vaxxers and the nay-sayers.

Pūkaha National Wildlife Centre received two quad bikes donated by Bevan and Ingrid Bisset from Bisset Honda in Pahiatua. The quad bikes will be used as part of the Department of Conservation Jobs for Nature funded rabbit control programme.
Wairarapa Hunting and Fishing have also donated firearms … View morePūkaha National Wildlife Centre received two quad bikes donated by Bevan and Ingrid Bisset from Bisset Honda in Pahiatua. The quad bikes will be used as part of the Department of Conservation Jobs for Nature funded rabbit control programme.
Wairarapa Hunting and Fishing have also donated firearms and a range of high performance clothing, footwear and hunting equipment for the rabbit programme team to operate with.
The rabbit control programme works in the buffer zone around the reserve to control a burgeoning rabbit population, coordinating neighbours and landowners, DOC, Greater Wellington Regional Council and Horizons Regional Council.
