Poll: Do you think we should have Māori wards?

Richard Parfitt from Whakatāne District Council

The Council is seeking comments directly from key stakeholders, and we're also asking for your feedback.

The Whakatāne District Council’s Policy Committee is keen to understand all viewpoints on the possibility of creating Māori Wards, prior to the next local government elections in 2019.

Following a wide-ranging discussion on ways to promote greater Māori involvement in decision-making, Councillors have agreed to pursue further investigations on the possibility of introducing Māori Wards and gather feedback from Iwi.

A report summarising all feedback will be presented to the Policy Committee later this year.

Vote in the poll, leave a comment below, or email us at info@whakatane.govt.nz to send your feedback.

We want to know: As the world evolves, what skills do you think give a CV the ultimate edge in a robot-filled workplace?

But for Emma Muller, it has also turned into an opportunity to celebrate her late daughter Nicola, who died 19 years ago at the age of 37.

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
