Additional numbers and email addresses can be included for a modest fee.  I am the coordinator for the A-Z listings so give me a call on 021 626 090 urgently if you want any changes made.  The directory will be printed before mid June.

Something you may not know about your local Rotary Club is that they administer applications to the J R McKenzie Youth Education Fund, the aims and objects of which are:
"To assist in the betterment, education, advancement and physical welfare of the youth in the community, particularly in cases where bereavement, sickness or family disturbances leave the children in need of assistance if they are to continue their studies."
Grant Criteria
The Fund wishes to help where death,
sickness, family break up or economic
 hardship cause difficulty for young
people and their caregivers to meet the
 costs of their education.  Applications
must be related to a young person’s
education, although this term can be
broadly interpreted. The Fund will not
cover general tuition fees, unless there
 are unusual circumstances.
The Fund is administered entirely by Rotary clubs
which have a separate
committee who receive and consider all
 applications from individuals (through
Rotarians), other Rotary clubs, community
 organisations, school principals, ministers
and social workers. After considering the
degree of hardship and seeing evidence
of a degree of self-help, they distribute
grants to the most deserving cases
through the nearest Rotary Club, who
can discuss problems and offer advice,
 if requested. Applications are invited
around September of each year, but can
 be made at any time.

If you have a family member, friend or neighbour who is near the end of their life or is starting to lose the ability to communicate, have you considered having them record their life history?

Waikato Hospice has more than 600 volunteers and a small section of these dedicated people interview, record and transcribe the life histories of Hospice clients.  They travel to people's homes or care facilities and tape record life stories.  These are edited, and transcribed into booklets.

Some publications our quite amazing.  Family photographs can be included.  Recording sessions can be kept short so as not to stress the client, and the volunteer will return as many times as necessary.  Drafts of each session can be given and changes made if required.

Clients as far afield as Thames, Waihi and Piopio have had their stories recorded.  The volunteers are trained and are patient, caring and strictly confidential.  Completed stories may be restricted to specific family members or friends - others could be made publicly available, it's entirely up to the person being recorded.

The only requirement is that the person being recorded must be a registered client with Hospice Waikato.  Ask Hospice to be put you in contact with the Life History Coordinator, it's a wonderful free of charge service.
