Heirloom Veggie Plants Waikanae Market this Saturday
Met Service are forecasting a long hot summer. Get your veggies in now so they are well-established before you need to start watering.
Possibly the last two weeks for Heirloom Tomatoes. Large strong plants just begging to be out of pots and into the soil. Planted our own this week and already they are expanding fast.
We also have large Pumpkin seedlings ready to run, plus Cucumber, Kumi Kumi, Zucchini, Red Capsicum, Kumara and a limited amount of basil, mint and chives.
All our seedlings are good strong plants, grown outdoors and ready to go in the ground.
By way of background, heirloom tomatoes are ones which have been handed down through the generations because they are prized for their flavour and suitability for various uses, whether used fresh or for preserves. They can be traced back to their origins all over Europe, the Americas and we even have our own NZ heirlooms. Many have fascinating stories behind their often fanciful-sounding names.
