Kāpiti Coast district councillor wants to roll back old SH1 ‘confusing’ Māori names
Splitting the 18km stretch of former State Highway 1 into seven sections would avoid renumbering and renaming more than 1000 properties, the council said.
But a councillor wanted to rethink this approach and its proposed Māori names, which were suggested by the district’s three iwi and a historian to reflect local cultural and social history.
