A Māori ward means Kāpiti residents on the Māori electoral roll would vote for a Māori ward councillor instead of for candidates standing in general wards based on location.

Councillors will decide at an Additional Council meeting on 14 November if this is the right course for Kāpiti. If they decide to go ahead, it will trigger a representation review next year. The review would check Kāpiti continues to be well represented by all our electoral arrangements for wards, boundaries, councillors, and community boards.
