Pest Control Alice Eaves Bush

David Neighbourly Lead from Orewa

A break in the wet weather on Thursday allowed members of a trapping group to get out into Eaves Bush and adjacent areas to check traps and bait stations. The group targets opossums, rats and mice. Various types of traps are used. Timms traps are used to catch opossums, ambush traps target rats and mice and other bait stations are set up target opossums and rats. The traps and bait stations have to be checked and replenished periodically. This involves trappers covering many kilometers as they crisscross the various tracks and trails across the park, checking each numbered trap and recording the amount of activity at each trap. The aim of this activity is to reduce the number of introduced pests and hopefully protect and foster native bird life in the park
