Four helicopters were used to drop 61 tonnes of non-toxic pre-feed bait over 32, 000 hectares, covering Mt Taranaki's cone and Pouakai Range in the cereal pellets.

The bait is used to lure pests, and weather dependent, spreading of the toxic pellets will be underway within the next couple of weeks.

The pre-feed drop will close public access to Plateau carpark and the end of Egmont Rd, leading to Egmont National Park Visitors Centre for two days. It is said that all ski permit holders have been notified as early as possible about the aerial operation.
