Severe weather warning issued by MetService - a cold end to the holidays!
Heavy rain for northwest Nelson, severe gales for Marlborough, Wellington and Taranaki and heavy snow for Canterbury and Marlborough. A deep low is expected to move east across central New Zealand overnight Thursday.
A front is expected to move east across New Zealand today and during Friday morning bringing a burst of heavy rain to many areas. The heaviest falls are expected in northwest Nelson where a heavy rain warning is now in force.
Heavy rain may cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly. Surface flooding and slips are also possible and driving conditions may be hazardous.
Valid: 13 hours from 9:00am to 10:00pm Thursday
Forecast: Expect a further 60 to 80mm to accumulate during this time, especially about the ranges, in addition to rain that has already accumulated. Peak intensitites of 10 to 20mm per hour.

Scam Alert: Bank cold calls
ASB is warning customers about reports of cold calls from scammers claiming to be from ASB. These scammers are trying to obtain personal information, including usernames, dates of birth, and verification codes sent to your mobile phone.
🛡️ The "Caller Check" Test
If you get a call from someone claiming to be from ASB and you’re unsure, just ask them for a Caller Check. You will then be able to verify the call through the app.
Remember, banks will:
❌ Never ask for your banking passwords, PINs, or verification codes
❌ Never need to know your full credit card number – especially the CVC
❌ Never ask you to download software or remotely access your device
❌ Never ask you to purchase gift cards or transfer funds.
