National opposes school zone
Nelson MP, National's Nick Smith, says families in the city have had the choice between co-ed and single sex schools for 25 years, and Nayland College should not introduce an enrolment zone. The Education Minister, Chris Hipkins, says if the boards of Nelson’s two single-sex schools, and the community, feel a co-ed high school is needed in the area, the Education Ministry would be "open to having that conversation".
