Unlike Pohara and other campgrounds Tahunanui campground did not require vaccination passes. Now they are asking everyone there between January 30 and February 5 to get tested as a camper has been found positive.
Tahuna Beach Holiday Park chief executive David Pattinson has today cheerfully announced the campground had been “taking all precautions, and some” since the Christmas break and “we are following Ministry of Health guidelines to the letter at this point”.

Note ‘at this point’ rather than ‘right from the start’.

Beforehand the camp had advised Stuff media that masks would be required but living nearby I can report masks were pretty well not to be seen although, now it’s too late, the camp may become a little more proactive.

I hope the camp’s laissez faire attitude to Covid (presumably preferring money to community health) has not resulted in a spreader event for all of the out of town campers or those of us lucky enough to share our town with Tahunanui camp and its managers.

Community is at the heart of everything Oceania does, and sunny Nelson’s Green Gables is no different. Oceania resident, Marie, loves being part of the community, saying “This is the place I’ve been able to make friends.”

Reflecting on when she first moved to her Oceania Care Suite, Marie says, “The Guest Services Manager got to know me in the first week. We had dinner.” Adding with a smile, “The chef here is absolutely marvellous.”

But Marie’s social life isn’t limited to delicious dinner dates, as there’s always something happening. “The Guest Services Manager gets to know the residents and what they want to do. Everyone is different and has different needs. They’ll arrange things for what we want to do.”

When it comes to her spacious Care Suite, Marie couldn’t be happier. “I love my room. I have a little outside patio area. I can boil the jug and make myself a cup of tea. I can entertain friends here. I have miles of photos up, I like having lots of photos around me.”

At Oceania, Marie has found that feeling many of us are searching for, “I wake up every morning and feel good.”

If you would like to learn more about Green Gables’ luxury Care Suites offering Rest Home and Hospital care, please call Jackie on 0800 333 688.

Want to recognise your favourite local business?

Prospa

We all love a cheeky grin and a wave from our local grocer, or a toot from the delivery driver, or a coffee order that’s ready before we arrive. And especially over the last year, it’s been the small businesses in our communities that have almost made things seem ‘normal’.

It seems a given that Covid is here to stay, combined with potential super spreaders in the community such as the Free Market at the A&P show grounds , people need to take it seriously.
it appears that scientific research has shown that vitamin deficiency has a strong link between death or serious illness among patients.
"Israel scientists say they have gathered the most convincing evidence to date that increased vitamin D levels can help COVID-19 patients reduce the risk of serious illness or death."
while in the Middle east 4 out of 5 are deficient , " About 5% of adults in New Zealand are deficient in vitamin D. A further 27% are below the recommended blood level of vitamin D. People with darker skin, who spend less time outside or who have health conditions that make it hard to absorb nutrients are more at risk of vitamin D deficiency."
