Freedom Camping Bylaw - Please Post Your Input
Hi All, just a reminder that the Freedom Camping Bylaw consultation is closing tomorrow.
This one is important, potentially costing us money as well as additional impact on our lives.

My own opinion:
- NOT a priority for our rates dollars.
- NOT acceptable anywhere in the city. The impact in noise and litter is huge.
Make the Brook Motorcamp, the largest Council-owned of its kind in the S. Island (or so I hear), the only place for freedom campers - AT A FEE to cover expense. User-pay, remember?
- Also remember, this group does not contribute significantly to our local economy, and we are not a charity. Most welcome to come and enjoy, but at their own expense. New Zealand is the farthest away from any of their home countries, and getting here is expensive. They can afford a few more dollars!

The Reserve Bank has shared some pretty blunt advice: there’s no such thing as a “safe” job anymore 🛟😑
Robots are stepping into repetitive roles in factories, plants and warehouses. AI is taking care of the admin tasks that once filled many mid-level office jobs.
We want to know: As the world evolves, what skills do you think give a CV the ultimate edge in a robot-filled workplace?

Emma’s wedding dress reveal tells a different love story
A Valentine’s-inspired wedding dress show at Ryman Healthcare’s Logan Campbell Village is providing the perfect opportunity for residents to share memories of their romantic day.
But for Emma Muller, it has also turned into an opportunity to celebrate her late daughter Nicola, who died 19 years ago at the age of 37.
Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?
As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙
One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.
So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
-
59.4% Yes, supporting people is important!
-
26.4% No, individuals should take responsibility
