Tahunanui Playground Project 2024
The Nelson Host Lions Club was formed in 1962. One of our first projects was the initial construction of the Tahunanui Playground.
This has been added to and well-used by generations of young Nelson People.
Last Year, the first item built at the playground, the concrete train was removed after it was damaged and no longer fit for purpose. There was a lot of concern and discussion from the local community over this removal.
Our Lions Club is pleased to advise that we are ready to begin on the replacement train. It will be wooden this time as this is more durable and user-friendly. This will be a joint build with the help of the MenzShed Waimea. The NCC is also on board with approval and assistance.
In order to have Community involvement and ownership in the project it has been suggested that we open a GIVE-A-LITTLE page. This is being organised by the Tahunanui Business & Citizen Assn. First introduced in New Zealand in 1927 with the passing of the Summer Time Act, it's what we know as 'Daylight Saving' and this year it ends on the first Sunday in April.
While we do get to sleep in this time around, some people would like to scrap the clock tinkering for good.
And why? Some evidence suggests the time changes are bad for our health as they mess with sleep patterns leading to short-term fatigue and affecting mood. Meanwhile the hour change is frustrating for farmers and a nightmare for getting the littlies to sleep. But what's your take?
