What you need to know about tomorrow's nurses strike

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

Hospitals in the region are being emptied out and will be reduced to essential services tomorrow as thousands of nurses and healthcare workers stop work. The industrial action will run from 7am Thursday for 24 hours.

What you need to know:
• NMH will contact affected patients directly. People should come to their scheduled appointment unless they have been contacted to say their appointment is being postponed. Patients or other members of the public can also call NMH on 0800 733 372 to check the status of their appointment.
• On the day of the strike, people should still go to hospital if the matter is urgent. Dial 111 for emergencies or an ambulance.
• Visit the Medical and Injury Centre in Nelson and Urgent Care Centre in Blenheim for after-hours care
• Otherwise, people should visit their GP or a local pharmacy.
• Free medical advice is available 24/7 at 0800 611 116.

The NMH website will have the most up to date notices about the strikes and effects on healthcare services.

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
