Several cases of norovirus confirmed in Nelson

Neighbourly from Neighbourly.co.nz

A norovirus outbreak has been confirmed in a rest home in Nelson after several cases of gastroenteritis were reported.

Nelson Marlborough Public Health Service clinical director Dr Stephen Bridgman said it was not uncommon for cases of norovirus to occur in residential facilities and the Public Health Service was monitoring the situation.

Children with symptoms should be kept home from schools and ECEs, and adults should stay away from their workplace, while they are sick and for 48 hours after their last vomiting or diarrhoea episode. Read more here.

How can I prevent getting sick?
Hand hygiene is the single most important activity to help prevent the spread of colds, influenza, tummy bugs and other infections.

What if I've got norovirus?
The Ministry of Health advises people:
- Not to go to school, early childhood centres or work until well and for 48 hours after the last episode of diarrhoea and vomiting.
- Not to handle food for at least 48 hours after the symptoms stop.
- Immediately remove and wash any contaminated clothes and bedding using detergent and hot water.
- Thoroughly clean and disinfect contaminated surfaces by using a bleach-based disinfectant.
- Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water or an alcohol-based gel.

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
