🍎Expectations for our apples🍏
They are tree ripened, unsprayed, no chemical fertilizers/irrigation applied and grown in Lower Moutere.
Common apple diseases are found on our apples such as black spot, apple scab and sooty bloch.
Conventional orchards spray a lot to prevent these.
I check through our apples to leave out badly infected/blemished or apples too small for sale, but they may not be perfectly clean like store bought ones because we don’t even use sprays like copper, which some organic labels allow.
I’ve been researching and practicing pruning/thinning methods to minimize those diseases.
We mow around the apple trees and I crawl under them and crimp glass to give good ventilation.
Also we manually dig up invasive pest plants (blackberry, old mans beard, morning glory) to keep the orchard spray-free.
Thanks for reading
