Hard row to hoe to meet 2050 zero carbon target?
Some businesses like Port Nelson are struggling to work out how to meet their obligations under the Zero Carbon Bill, to become carbon neutral within 30 years. The Port expects to offset its carbon emissions over the next decade, as it can't yet use or afford green technology like electric tugs and cranes or biofuel. As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙
One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.
