Depression Era Knitting On Display in Napier This Weekend

Denise from Marewa

During the Depression, many people had to make their clothes and this included knitting them. If you go to watch the Fashion Flaunt at the SoundShell between 1 and 2pm today, you'll see at least 2 knitted outfits in the competition. Creative Arts Napier have some garments knitted from 1930s patterns on display and tomorrow, a group of knitters will be on the mezzanine in the morning and downstairs (possibly) in the afternoon.

Poll: Are Kiwis allergic to “exuberance”? 🥝

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

In The Post’s opinion piece on the developments set to open across Aotearoa in 2026, John Coop suggests that, as a nation, we’re “allergic to exuberance.”

We want to know: Are we really allergic to showing our excitement?

Is it time to lean into a more optimistic view of the place we call home? As big projects take shape and new opportunities emerge, perhaps it’s worth asking whether a little more confidence (and enthusiasm!) could do us some good.
